Tengu are the long-nosed mountain spirits of Japanese legend — fierce, disciplined masters of the sword said to have trained the great warriors in the deep forests. This entry-level katana is named for them and built in their spirit: a tough, no-nonsense training blade with an antique, earthy character.
Forging & Steel
The blade is forged from manganese steel and finished in a deep brown, an alloy praised for its hardness and impact resistance — exactly the qualities that suit handling drills and repeated cuts where a blade takes punishment. It is full-tang and secured with two bamboo mekugi, a genuine working sword for the practitioner who trains hard.
Named for the mountain spirits said to have schooled Japan’s greatest swordsmen, the Tengu is built to be drilled hard: manganese steel takes impact and resists chipping, so it tolerates the repeated, imperfect cuts of disciplined practice. The ebony saya with its bull-horn kurigata and the ray-skin grip give it an antique, earthy character rather than showroom polish, which suits a sword meant for the dojo floor. At 103 cm overall and pinned full-tang with two bamboo mekugi, it can be maintained the traditional way — a genuine working blade at an entry price.
Fittings
The mounting pairs a carved copper tsuba with a durable ebony-wood saya featuring a bull-horn kurigata and cord wrapping. The tsuka is wrapped in genuine ray-skin (stingray) leather with a copper menuki set beneath for a secure structure and a confident grip.

Is it battle-ready?
Yes. The full-tang manganese blade is tough and impact-resistant, built for repeated cutting and handling drills rather than the display cabinet alone. Browse the katana collection, or compare with other entry pieces like Katana Chie and Katana Dairiseki.
