Michikatsu Tsugikuni — better known to fans as Upper Moon One, Kokushibo — is the demon brother of Yoriichi, and his blade should feel as menacing as his legend. This handmade Michikatsu Tsugikuni katana reproduces that sword as a genuine working piece for collectors who want the character and the edge.
Forging & Steel
The 72 cm blade is forged from 1060 carbon steel, a high-carbon alloy that holds a true edge while staying resilient under impact. It is hand-polished to reveal the steel and set on a full-tang core, so the whole katana behaves as one solid piece. Two bamboo mekugi pin the tang for full disassembly and maintenance.
Mounts & Fittings
Carved iron tsuba and menuki add weight toward the hand for control, the handle is wrapped in synthetic shagreen for a secure grip, and the lightweight lacquered wood saya keeps the sword nimble and clean on display.
Care & Maintenance
A high-carbon blade like this rewards a little upkeep. Because 1060 steel is reactive, wipe the blade down after every handling session and lay on a thin film of light mineral or camellia oil before it slides back into the saya, which stops surface rust from ever taking hold. Knock out the two bamboo mekugi when you want to strip the sword for a deeper clean, and store it edge-up on a stand so the lacquered scabbard never bears the weight of the blade. Treated this way, it stays keen, bright and display-ready for years.

Is it battle-ready?
Yes. The sharpened, full-tang 1060 blade is built for light tatami practice as much as for the shelf. Explore more of our anime katana range, including the Yoriichi Tsugikuni katana and the Tokito Muichiro katana.

It showed up with a crack and is in rough shape overall. Nowhere near as sharp as I expected. On top of that, shipping took way longer than it should have.
Forged with exemplary care.
Perfect, nothing to add! Exactly what I was expecting, I really do recommend it!
