Suigyoku means emerald — the deep, living green of jade — and the sword is dressed in it from guard to grip: green lacquer, green sageo, green shagreen. It is our entry point into real functional steel: a katana that pairs natural elegance with the technical robustness that makes spring steel such a forgiving first blade.
Forging & Steel
The blade is forged from spring steel and finished by hand-hammering. Spring steel is prized for exactly what its name suggests — flexibility and shock absorption — so the blade flexes and recovers under stress without sacrificing edge sharpness. That toughness makes it an ideal companion for a newcomer building cutting technique, where a more brittle blade would be less forgiving.
Mounting & Fittings
The tsuba is sculpted and gilded zinc alloy, balancing strength, corrosion resistance and light weight, set against a green-lacquered saya with a matching green sageo. The tsuka is wrapped in genuine green shagreen with a copper menuki kit and two bamboo mekugi over a full-tang blade, for a firm, comfortable grip and a harmonious green palette throughout.

Is it battle-ready?
Yes. Suigyoku is a full-tang spring-steel blade built to flex and absorb shock — a forgiving, functional katana for a first cutter, light at 1.2 kg and comfortable in the grip. Its all-green dress also makes it a handsome stand piece. As a first real sword, compare it with our mid-tier T10 options like the Katana Tori and Katana Tame across the katana range.

Absolutely fantastic craftsmanship. Exactly what I ordered, with the inscription intact.
