Hideyoshi takes its name from Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the warlord who unified sixteenth-century Japan — and the mount carries his clan crest in red lacquer to honour it. This is a katana built to respect the old smithing traditions, from its folded Damascus blade to its tachi-style fittings, a piece that wears its history openly.
Forging & Steel
The blade is Damascus steel showing distinct swirl-and-scale patterns, the signature of folded and forge-welded layers drawn out by hand. That folding gives the sword both its unique beauty and its superior strength and elasticity, and the edge is brought up by a master polish that reveals the full depth of the grain. The high-grade copper tsuba is finely sculpted; the saya wears traditional red lacquer marked with the Toyotomi clan crest and a tachi-style mounting — Obitori Kanagu Kashiwaba and Kogiri — where the tsuka-ito wrap continues onto the scabbard itself, a rare and elegant detail. The tsuka is genuine shagreen leather fitted with a top-quality copper menuki set, secured by two bamboo mekugi so the sword can be fully disassembled for cleaning and maintenance. With scabbard it weighs 1.4 kg, well balanced for practice or display, a mid-tier katana with the presence of something far dearer.

Is it battle-ready?
Yes. The folded Damascus blade is master-polished and sharpened, and the twin bamboo mekugi make it a true full-tang sword you can take apart for care. Explore more in the katana collection, or compare it with the Suhama Giri and the Shokubutsu.

Good weight, beautiful katana! I love it. Very sharp and perfectly balanced weight.
Love pretty much everything about this sword except the metal used on the fittings. Whether it’s raw brass, copper or pot metal, it leaves black residue on your hands and turns them black.
Beautiful katana as always.
Very fine quality katana. Just be aware there are customs fees on top. The£10 charge is still fairly reasonable, but it should be made clearer at the point of ordering. Other than that, all good. Very pleased.
Quite simply a work of art. Well done. Less than two weeks of waiting, so perfect. Congrats again on a job really well done.
