Every blade is inspected, oiled and packed discreetly — the carton never announces a sword inside.

Watatsumi is the sea god of Japanese myth — sovereign of tides and storms — and this katana is themed on the ocean’s quiet power: a blade polished until the steel reflects like still water, mounted in copper that calls to mind sea-dragons and deep current.

Forging & Steel

The blade is forged from T10 steel and clay-tempered, so a visible hamon rises from the quench along a differentially hardened edge. It is then finished with a hand-made mirror polish, the surface worked by hand until it throws a clean reflection and the temper line reads sharp against the bright steel. The blade is full-tang, balanced for the kind of low, controlled draw a working sword wants.

The mirror polish is more than cosmetic: by bringing the surface to a true reflection, the hand polish makes the boundary between hardened edge and softer spine read with unusual clarity, so the hamon is legible the length of the blade. Balanced at 103 cm overall, the Watatsumi draws low and returns clean, suiting it to controlled cutting practice as much as to a stand. The ocean theme runs through the fittings — copper worked toward sea-dragon and current — but underneath the styling sits a properly hardened T10 cutter.

Fittings

A finely carved copper tsuba sets the tone. The lacquered-wood saya wears a dragon motif and carries a durable cotton sageo, while the tsuka is wrapped in genuine white shagreen (galuchat) with copper menuki set beneath the wrap for grip and balance.
